Weekend of 24–25 October in Thessaly, what's on where
Kiwi Festival, Volos Night Run, the «Anna Karenina» premiere, the close of the Horto Festival and comedy in Trikala on the weekend of 24–25/10.
The last weekend of October has a bit of everything: kiwis at the foot of Olympus, night running on the Volos seafront, Tolstoy at the theatre, chamber music on Pelion and comedies in Trikala. Here is what's on, with the organisers' details.
Saturday 24 October
Kiwi Festival, Aigani (19:00). The Municipality of Tempi's two-day Kiwi Festival opens in the square of Aigani with a blessing, talks by agronomists on growing the fruit and its properties, activities for children, sweets and dishes made with kiwi by local associations, and the dance group of the Aigani Cultural Association.
Horto Festival, closing concert (18:00). In the «Giorgos Chatzinikos» hall in Horto, south Pelion, the 42nd Festival closes with piano trios: pianist Maria Efstratiadi, violinist Vanessa Athanasiou and cellist Elli Filippou play Beethoven's Trio Op. 1 No. 3 and Brahms's Trio Op. 8. Volos Night Run. The 6th Volos Night Run takes place on the Volos seafront, with a 500-metre children's race at 18:00, a 5-kilometre race at 19:00 and a 10-kilometre race at 20:10, at the times as changed by the organisers.
«Anna Karenina», premiere. The Municipal Regional Theatre of Volos stages Tolstoy at the «Vangelis Papathanassiou» Municipal Theatre, with tickets at 5 euros. It plays every Saturday and Sunday until 29 November.
Sunday 25 October
Kiwi Festival, Pyrgetos (11:00). The second day moves to Vaios Malliaras square in Pyrgetos, with a blessing, traditional dances by the Panthessalian Association of Spilia «O Kissavos» and the Pyrgetos Cultural Association, and a feast with a live band.
«The Caucasian Chalk Circle», Larissa (12:00). The family show of the Thessaly Theatre's Children's and Youth Stage plays on Sunday at noon at the «Kostas Tsianos» Theatre, with tickets at 10 euros for adults.
Trikala Comedy Film Festival, final days. TICFF runs until Sunday 25 October, with free entry. Screenings take place at the Municipal Cinema in the Matsopoulos Mills; check the programme for the last days before you go.
One more thing
If the weekend finds you without plans, Thanasis Lalas's exhibition «Walks in the outskirts of the soul» at the ALMA Gallery in Trikala stays open until 30 November, and on Saturday it opens from 10:00 to 14:00. And a note on driving: on Saturday afternoon the Volos seafront will be taken up by the race, so leave the car away from the waterfront.
