Most museums show one period. The Diachronic Museum of Larissa attempts something more ambitious: it tells the history of Thessaly as one continuous journey, from prehistory to recent times.
A building on the hill
The museum is housed in a modern building outside the dense centre, on Mezourlo hill, surrounded by green and looking towards the city. From above you can see how its low architecture spreads into the landscape instead of dominating it.
What you will see
The galleries follow chronological order. Tools, vases, sculptures, inscriptions and mosaics are lit in a way that lets the objects speak. Between the display cases, large panels and digital displays help tie the pieces into a story.
Tip
Allow at least two hours. And if you go with children, start with the mosaics: that is where even the most hurried visitors stop.
