Walking through the centre of Larissa, it is easy to pass a white façade with a Hebrew inscription above a wooden door. Behind it is one of the brightest interiors in the city: the Synagogue.
The space
Inside, white columns with decorated capitals divide the space. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling. The wooden seats face the centre and the ark. Light comes in through the arched windows and makes the room feel larger than it is.
A community of the city
The Jewish community of Larissa has centuries of history in the city and lived through all its great moments, and its darkest. The Synagogue is a place of worship, and a place of memory for the whole of Larissa.
Visits to places of worship are made with respect and, where required, by arrangement with the community.
